WESTMINSTER, Colo – Colorado State Patrol officials are investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting early Saturday afternoon in Adams County.

Officials said Cpl. Tye Simcox was in his marked vehicle in the center median on Highway 36 around 1:18 p.m. when a passing driver fired several shots, with one hitting Simcox.

Officials said the shooter then pulled over, got out of their car, and continued to shoot at Simcox.

They said the Simcox got out of his car, and returned fire, hitting the shooter who died at the scene.

Officials said the Simcox was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

They said the investigation is ongoing. Highway 36 is closed while the investigation continues.
