Crawford Bryant: who was he? Candlelight Vigil for Soccer Player at Columbia High School Killed in Mishap

Following an automobile accident on Hanover Road close to Illinois Route 3, a soccer player from Columbia High School lost his life.

A fast vehicle that was later discovered in a fatal collision was noticed by a Waterloo police officer on Sunday afternoon. On the spot, Crawford Bryant was declared deceased.

One of the three other pupils in the car had injuries that might be fatal, so they were all sent to the hospital.

After the accident, Columbia High School issued a statement.

We are grieving the loss of a brother and teammate, and our hearts are devastated. Please [prayer] for the families, community, school, and our soccer family. It said, “#5 #ColumbiaStrong.”

On Monday morning, there was a candlelight memorial to remember Bryant and to offer prayers for the youngsters who are still fighting for their lives.

The school sent the following message on social media after the vigil: “We are saddened by the unfortunate loss of one of our pupils. To honor this student, our community has profoundly united. We appreciate everyone who came to the Candlelight Vigil in Crawford Bryant’s honor tonight.

We genuinely hope that the other injured students recover fully and quickly. Our sympathies are with them as well. The student’s legacy will always be a part of our community, serving as a constant reminder of the value of empathy, cohesion, and our mutual affection. As we work through this tragedy together, let’s not stop thinking about their family and supporting one another.

During the vigil, friends described Bryant as a lovely man who played varsity soccer as a sophomore at Columbia High School.

Bryant’s friend Hayes Van Breusegen told 5 On Your Side, “He was just an awesome guy.”
