Bryce Jonathan Schubert, also a nurse and Jubane’s neighbor in Beaverton, has been identified as the man from Newberg, Oregon who was taken into custody in connection with the murder of Melissa Jubane, a missing Providence nurse.

Following a thorough investigation, 27-year-old Bryce Johnathan Schubert was taken into custody on Friday night in connection with the Wednesday disappearance of the 32-year-old newlywed nurse.

In October 2023, Schubert resigned from her position as a nurse at Providence Portland Medical Center. At the time of her death and disappearance, Jubane worked as a nurse at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center.

Although Schubert has been charged with second-degree murder, the motivation for the crime has not yet been made public by the police. At the Washington County Jail, he is being detained. The remains of Jubane have been located.

Melissa was reported missing on Wednesday by Beaverton Police after she failed to show up for her nursing shift at Providence St. Vincent Center in Portland on the morning of that day.

At that time, Melissa’s family asked for a welfare check, so Beaverton Police officers went to her home at 1050 SW 160th Avenue in Beaverton. Staff from the apartment building greeted the officers when they arrived, and they searched Melissa’s unit. Melissa wasn’t there, and it was considered strange and concerning that she hadn’t communicated. Officers and family members tried multiple times during the day to get in touch with Melissa, but her phone seemed to be turned off.

Schubert became a suspect after Beaverton Police conducted a thorough investigation. He was taken into custody on Friday night and accused of second-degree murder.

In response to Jubane’s passing, Providence St. Vincent Medical Center issued a statement.

“We are devastated to learn about Melissa Jubane’s passing. She was a nurse and colleague at Providence St. Vincent. We are all shocked by this, and her coworkers are grieving for her. According to the statement, Melissa was a remarkable nurse who was dedicated to the Providence Mission and always exemplified our core values of excellence, compassion, and integrity. “We are standing in solidarity with Melissa’s family and close associates. We value all of the community’s expressions of concern. We shall miss Melissa, who was a creature of Providence.
