Eight-year-old Killed in Mom’s Car After Unintentionally Shooting Himself
After her 8-year-old son unintentionally shot and killed himself after discovering a gun in her car, a Utah mother is in mourning and may be in danger.
When the mother left the car at a Maverik petrol station in Lehi, Utah on Monday night, the boy was left alone.
According to reports, he shot himself by mistake after discovering her gun taped under her car seat. The injured child was taken to the hospital, where he passed away.
Witness Doug Shields, who was filling up his own car at the time of the incident, told KUTV what transpired.
Shields said that when he heard the gunfire, “he was just getting ready to put the nozzle in the tank.”
“And then I heard this woman yelling, ‘Help! Help! Help!'” The shields persisted.
Shields remarked, “I stopped and ran over there really fast.” “She opened the passenger side door as soon as I arrived, and when I looked down, I saw this little boy with blood all over the front seat.”
“She says, ‘He got himself shot!'” He took a self-shot! He took a shot to himself! Shields related. “Then I wonder, ‘How did that happen?'” He reached under the driver’s seat, found my gun, which I keep under there, and fired the trigger,’ she said. Everything was incidental.
The witness stated that after the catastrophe, the mother fainted for around thirty minutes before awakening.
At this point, it’s unclear whether the safety was on or off and whether the gun was kept behind the seat appropriately.
It’s unknown at this time whether or not officials intend to file charges.
