Gavin Rohrbach Obituary, Death: Union High School Student Gavin Rohrbach Killed in Jesup Accident
Following an accident involving Union Community School District kids in La Porte City, Iowa on Tuesday, one person died and four more were injured.
Gavin Rohrbach, a senior at Union High School, perished in the collision that happened at the intersection of South Canfield Road and Dubuque Road at approximately 9:45 p.m.
The pupils were on their way back from Oelwein vs. Union volleyball in Jesup.
Around 9:45 p.m., a Nissan Pathfinder sport utility vehicle was heading south on South Canfield Road when it ran the stop sign at Dubuque Road and collided with a Buick Rendezvous at the intersection, according to the Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office.
On the spot, Rohrbach was declared dead, while the other four pupils only suffered minor injuries.
Due to a potential significant injury, one of the women from the other automobile was evacuated to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Waterloo Fire Ambulance, Dunkerton Ambulance, and Jesup Fire and Ambulance crews also arrived on the scene.
The Union Community School District declared on Wednesday that all co-curricular and extracurricular programs for students in grades 7 through 12 will be canceled through Sunday, September 15.
The following statement was also made public by the school district: “I share this update with you with great regret. Several Union students were hurt in an automobile collision last night while driving home after the Oelwein volleyball match. Gavin Rohrbach, a member of the class of 2025, passed away at the scene of the collision. The injuries sustained by the other students vary.
