Tragic Death: Chance Gainer, 18, a Florida football star in high school, passes away in a Port St. Joe game

Football in Florida is grieving after a high school player collapsed and died on Friday night following a game in Port St. Joe.

Chance Gainer, 18, was transported to the hospital after suffering an unexpected fall; nevertheless, the senior was later pronounced dead.

Despite their apparent sprint to his aid on the field, the wide receiver’s coaches were unable to preserve his life.

The Liberty High School game was immediately called off, and the one that was supposed to take place next week has already been postponed, according to WMBB.

Jim Norton, the superintendent of Gulf County, called Gainer “one of the best young men ever to walk the halls at Port St. Joe High School.”

According to Norton, Gainer was an athlete who “had world-class speed, but more importantly, had a world-class personality.”

Norton also said that the 18-year-old honors student had no pulse when paramedics first arrived to treat him. But they did find an ambulance before they put him in one.

Gainer, according to concussion campaigners, is the 12th football player to die this year.

The deceased football player reportedly had a grade point average above 4.0 and just visited Vanderbilt University to discuss potential relocation.

Following the event, bereavement counselors are being scheduled by the authorities to come to the school and offer support to players, students, teachers, and staff, according to WDBJ7.
